The Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail

The 16-mile Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail follows the route of the 1940s Dahlgren Branch Rail Line, and stretches across King George County just south of the Potomac River in Virginia’s Northern Neck. The trail is open for walking, running, cycling, and other non-motorized recreational uses. The trail is comprised of 240 acres of preserved sanctuary for native wildlife and natural beauty. Learn more on their website!

Poetry on the Trail begins at 6493 Indiantown Road (State Route 610), and continues east toward the town of Dahlgren. The first mile segment of this trail section is leveled and surfaced with stone dust. This segment is terrific for strollers as well as children with bicycles and is perfect for easy walking as well as hiking and running. The rest of this trail section is clear, and the railroad ties have been removed.

Rt. 610 crossing: There is a parking lot that can accommodate about a dozen cars, when they are parked diagonally. Up to 5 cars may park off the side of the road if the lot fills up.

Please be sure to park completely off the road and do not trespass on neighboring property.
